First, a brief word from The Master:

'I know, I know. Your computer is telling you that the column is short again. Obviously most of the story descriptions are not there. But really it's all here - detailed descriptions of everything. You believe this. You WILL believe this. You will obey me ...'
It's been a quiet week for Doctor Who on TV, but a very noisy week for old Doctor Who TV episodes. The 5th and final UK DVD for 2002 was announced - Resurrection of the Daleks. Among the surprises were that Janet Fielding (Tegan) will be one of the people doing the commentary, and that Eric Saward and John Nathan-Turner were both interviewed on the same day for the DVD. In the US, BBC Worldwide Americas and Warner are breaking with their previous policy of only releasing titles that have gotten DVD releases in the UK, opting to release the 1978-1979 season (The Key To Time) as a DVD boxset late this year. BBC Worldwide Americas is getting the Restoration Team in the UK to help properly clean up the episodes first.

While Doctor Who to me is, was, and always will be a TV series, I'm delighted when decisions are made to release titles on DVD, and more delighted when the people releasing them go to the trouble of making certain the stories are in good condition. Now - since we know that BBCWA likes to have good quality material - how about requesting newer, better condition broadcast prints of the episodes to replace the rather worn, sometimes problematic prints currently airing on TV stations in the US? The US TV prints desparately need replacement in some cases.

Closing arguments in the trial get heated when surprise witnesses from the Doctor's past and future arrive, and incriminating evidence against the Valeyard arrives. Part 13 was the final episode written by popular writer Robert Holmes, who died before getting to part 14. Script editor Eric Saward wrote a part 14, but wound up leaving the production team in an acrimonious departure. Part 14 was eventually written by Pip and Jane Baker at the last minute. Part 14 is also the longest regular episode of the TV series intended for the 25 minute format, clocking in at 29 minutes.
